Bath is a city known for, and literally named, after its famous Roman-built baths. That fact should come as a surprise to approximately no one. But along with the fetching Georgian architecture and natty cobblestone streets, Bath’s restaurant scene has become something of a real draw for visitors and locals alike. Especially in recent years. Because yes, good as they may be but there’s far more to the food scene in Bath than Sally Lunn's Buns. You can find a range of different cuisines and cultures represented across the city.

From the best Italian restaurants in Bath to reliable boltholes for a fiery curry, there’s plenty of spots in the city that’ll make sure you leave fed and happy. We’ve tried to list as many of our favourite places to eat in Bath in this list as we could but it’s worth adding a caveat here that there might be one or two that we’ve forgotten. If your all-time number one has been missed out then fire us a message and we’ll see if it’s worthy of being included.

Without further ado, here’s all the places where we think you should eat in Bath. We've numbered them but the numbers don't actually mean anything. Got it? Right. Now, go and get stuck in.

1. Beckford Bottle Shop

This wine shop and bistro in Bath doles out excellent small plates and – you guessed it – wine. The wine programme here has had serious attention to detail put into it with over thirty wines by the glass available. When it comes to the food at Beckford Bottle Shop, chef James Harris and his team love to utilise local, seasonal produce wherever possible with everything from brutish mutton chops to squidgy canelés having made an appearance on the menu throughout the years. The space, which used to house a tea merchant’s and a grocer’s, is lovely as well.

2. Noya’s Kitchen

Sorry, you need to accept cookies from Instagram to view this content.

Noya’s Kitchen opened up on St James’s Parade in 2017 and owner and head chef Noya Pawlyn hasn’t looked back since. Hosting regular phở, curry, and noodle nights, there’s no surprise that this is one of the most popular Vietnamese restaurants in Bath. The specials change like Somerset weather but if previous options like cháo cá and crispy tapioca chicken wings are anything to go by then they’re always worth exploring. Make sure to book ahead of time. Noya’s is busy for a reason.

Styled after a Mexican cantina, Dos Dedos is a prime bit of real estate to settle down and fill yourself with as many tacos (and as much tequila) as you can. Tacos available include tender beef brisket, aromatic lamb birria, sweet and spicy pulled pork, and some plantain and potato options for any vegans and veggies out there. The two for £12 margaritas offer before 7pm makes coming to Dos Dedos for an early dinner an extremely enticing prospect. It’s easily one of the best casual restaurants in Bath.

If it’s simply a good pub lunch at a good food pub you’re after then a visit to The Pulteney Arms should be high on your list of things to do in Bath. The roasts here are hefty and generous – great if you’re stuck for a rainy Sunday activity – while the rest of the menu showcases a real murderer's row of pub menu classics. We’re talking burgers, fish and chips, chicken pie, sausage and mash – all of which are done well. Another bonus is the pub dog, a labrador called Hugo, who has eyes as sweet and brown as a Cadbury’s chocolate puddle.

5. Dough

Founded by Emiliano Tunno and Massimo Nucaro, two southern Italians with an eye for a quality cornicione, Dough is a pizza joint for the purists. Whether it’s a humble marinara or a special topped with mortadella, pistachios and artichokes, every pizza that comes out of the screaming hot ovens at Dough is pretty much perfect. The price point is keen, too, and it’s no surprise that the boys have opened up a second venue on Kingsmead Square. Is it the best pizza in Bath? Most probably, yes.

6. Corkage

Best Restaurants In Bath Corkage

Wine is one of the greatest inventions humanity has ever come up with, followed closely by wine bars. Having a space you can indulge in a bit of oenophilia without having to worry about the quality of what you’re consuming is every wine lover’s dream. And Corkage is a wine bar and restaurant which seems as if it's been plucked straight from that pinot noir-soaked imagination. The seasonal menu changes depending on what produce is looking good and the wine list is similar quality-led.

Nothing hits the spot like fresh seafood. When you’re sitting in front of a good bit of fish, and it’s been cooked by someone who knows what they’re doing, it’s hard to find much fault with life. The Scallop Shell is a restaurant in Bath that’ll make you feel pretty good about life, in general. They do some of the best fish and chips in the city and have even got the best bargain lunch in potentially the whole of the UK. Opt for the ‘Fisherman’s Lunch’ and you can get a choice of daily-changing mains with homemade mushy peas, tartare sauce, and a mug of Yorkshire tea for £12.50. Seriously. Don’t walk, run.

8. The Grand Eastern

An impressive, must-visit dining room isn’t what makes The Grand Eastern one of the best restaurants in Bath but it certainly helps. It also helps that the food can live up to the lofty expectations set by the cavernous space you’ll eat it in. The only difficulty lies in knowing what to eat. Thankfully, the staff are all knowledgeable and keen to guide you through the goods on offer. You’ll have a good feed here.

Modern British dining has been having a moment in Bath for a while but it’s been having even more of a moment since Beckford Canteen set up shop in 2022. Housed in a former Georgian greenhouse, the restaurant doesn’t just have heaps of character but has class in spades too. Head chef George Barson has written a menu that’s stuffed to the gills with hard decisions. Regardless of what you go for, though, you can rest easy knowing that every dish has been made using the highest quality ingredients. Come here as soon as you can.

10. Sotto Sotto

This subterranean restaurant is something special. It’s hard not to feel in the mood for romance when you’re dining in Sotto Sotto’s vaulted cellars, nextled next to the bare stone walls as you watch the sexy candlelit lighting flicker over the table. It helps that the food is pretty decent, too. Expect traditional Italian fare in the form of pastas like penne alla vodka and meatier mains like fresh grilled swordfish with salmoriglio sauce. Sotto Sotto is definitely a spot that it’s worth waiting for a special occasion or anniversary for.

11. Magu Burger

Every city deserves a burger place you can rely on to bring you back to life when you’re suffering from the worst cider-soaked hangover of your life. Thankfully for residents of Bath, Magu Burger can be visited at NOWHERE on Lower Bristol Road. The All American smash burger is so good it’ll have you contemplating ordering a second after the first bite. That being said, we’d highly recommend for your own health that you don’t. These burgers are seriously big. And seriously beautiful. One is more than enough.

12. Thaikhun

With outfits located all across the UK, Thaikhun remains a reliable spot to get to grips with Thai street food. The prices are fair, the menu is joyfully expansive, and the service is always friendly. There’s not a lot to dislike about Thaikhun. The food is always consistent, it’s the epitome of a crowd pleaser, and that’s why it’s earned its place as the best restaurants in Bath.

13. Bosco Pizzeria

No list of the best restaurants in Bath would be complete without mentioning a worthwhile pizzeria. Bosco Pizzeria on Milsom Place is an incredibly worthwhile pizzeria. Not only will the puffy crusts look great on your Instagram feed but they’ll feel right at home in your stomach, too. The pizzas range all the way from a simple margherita to pies topped with chubby meatballs and lacy coppa. What doesn’t change, however, is the quality of the ingredients used. Expect plenty of fior di latte mozzarella, prosciutto di parma, and fat green olives.

14. Chez Dominique

We’re big fans of French restaurants here at Mob and Chez Dominique is an exemplar of the genre. Boasting classics such as onglet steak with Café de Paris butter and crunchy frites as well as some decidedly less Gallic dishes like bucatini with wild mushrooms and truffle oil. We’d stick to the French bits if we were you. It’s what Chez Dominique does best and what cements them as one of the best restaurants in Bath.

15. The Kingsmead Kitchen

Sorry, you need to accept cookies from Instagram to view this content.

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but I’d argue that brunch is a close second. The Kingsmead Kitchen, located on the eponymous Kingsmead Street, is a lovely café where you could happily spend an entire day. Even if all you want to do is drink a flat white as you people watch the comings and goings of Kingsmead Square, you’ll be in good stead. It’s hard to go wrong with anywhere that offers an all day breakfast, to be honest. And Kingsmead Kitchen is where you can find one of the best full English breakfasts in town.

16. Indian Temptation

If you’re looking for the best vegetarian restaurant in Bath, this is it. Most Indian restaurants lend themselves naturally to vegetarian diets and Indian Temptation is somewhere that embraces that vegetable ethos full force with its completely vegan and vegetarian menu. Even if you’re a diehard meat eater, though, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any faults with an assault of onion bhajis, masala dosa, and saag paneer. This is good food at a good price point.

17. Yak Yeti Yak

Sorry, you need to accept cookies from Instagram to view this content.

Yak Yeti Yak has existed in some way, shape, or form in Bath for 20 years now. The first iteration opened up in a tucked away basement on Argyle Street in 2004 before moving into its larger Pierrepont Street premises, after it outgrew its first home, in 2007. The reason Yak Yeti Yak is still going strong today is simple: it’s very good. Whether you’re familiar with Nepalese food or a complete newbie, there’s plenty to love with juicy momos and the restaurant’s namesake Yak Yeti Yak chicken being two of the bestsellers. The latter is a dish inspired by the savoury chicken chilli bar snack eaten in hole in the wall bars in Kathmandu. It’s a must order. Trust.
