A beautiful, wintery, rib-sticking, mushroom and ale pie. Pie is proper Sunday food and nothing else hits the spot like it.

This was good, however it tasted a little bitter and wasn’t sure whether this was due to the type of ale used, as it didn’t specify? What sort of ale would be best?

I used Beef oxo instead of vegetable stock, and added in a splash of red wine vinegar and an extra tbsp of tomato puree and it was delicious.

I've made this once with marmite, once with Bovril. I personally liked it better with Bovril, so if you're not fussed on it being vege, this is a good option.
