Did you know there's a plastic waste island floating in the Pacific Ocean that measures 1.6 million square kilometres? Because there is. 500 million tonnes of plastic are produced annually worldwide and while we hope you're using a lovely reusable water bottle, you're probably also trying to think of ways you can reduce plastic at home. The blame obviously lies with the larger cooperations to stop polluting the planet but there are some little things you can do to make a difference each and every day. So, how can we reduce our plastic waste?
One of the easiest ways to cut down on your plastic is to simply shop at the bigger stores and avoid those little express supermarkets that cover literally everything in plastic. Here's a little experiment we tried:
We sent two of our employees to buy the same ingredients for our Sweet Potato Rösti from a small local supermarket chain and a larger supermarket chain. In the bigger stores, you can buy individual ingredients rather than packaged ones. As you can see, the sweet potatoes come without packaging, as do the chillies, the herbs, and the avocados. This quite clearly demonstrates the difference between the smaller and larger stores. So, to start cutting down on your plastic, try venturing out to the larger stores or greengrocers - it's worth the journey.
