Natural wines are interesting, fun, and undeniably cool. From the English Natural Wine Producers doing mad things with biodynamic farming to the Best Natural Wine Subscription Boxes and snazzy labels, there’s a lot to love about the organic wine scene. Price, though, can be a sticky situation. You obviously want to make sure you’re drinking something that’s objectively good – and something that's been sustainably farmed and free from the addition of any chemical nasties – but you also don’t want to be spending £20 on a bottle you’re not convinced that you're actually going to enjoy. And you definitely don't want to spend £20 on a bottle that tastes like drinking vinegar.

Not everyone has the same palate and something that I find to be fresh, bright and invigorating might taste more like cat piss that's been filtered through a used sieve to you. That's life. And the only way to truly find out what you like, and what you don't like, is by trying as many different things as possible.

That's something that's especially true when it comes to wine and, contrary to popular belief, good wine doesn’t always have to be expensive. Even natural wine can actually be fairly affordable if you know where to look and which producers to keep an eye out for. Most of these natty wines are super easygoing, less than a tenner, and a great entry point for the sceptics out there. These are the best natural wines you can get for £10 and less.

Fiesta de Azul y Garanza

Aranzul

This plummy red comes from Navarre – a region in the north-east of Spain – and is made from a blend of Garnacha and Tempranillo grapes. The Azul y Garanza are all about biodiversity and have even planted several fruit trees in their vineyard to promote just that. You can almost taste that fruit in every sip of this blackcurrant and cherry flavour bomb of a wine.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Metic

Cab Sav Metic 1080x

This organic wine from Chilean winemakers Wildmakers gives you a real biodynamic bang for your buck. Having been fermented with wild yeast in concrete vats, it’s not a super fruity wine and instead delivers a subtle kiss of peppery spice that’ll keep you returning to your glass. A great example of the potential of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon.

Gran Cerdo Blanco

Gran Cerdo blanco

A white wine with a little bit of everything, this cheeky natty number from Spanish producer Gonzalo Grijalba is great value for money and best drunk young. Don’t let this one sit in your wine rack for a special occasion, MOB – just whip it out the next time you fancy a glass of something fresh and juicy.

Petit Roubié Picpoul de Pinet

Picpoul

This zesty Picpoul is from the Languedoc region and produced by Château Petit Roubié – the only certified organic domain in the Picpoul de Pinet appellation. Expect biting citrus notes and an almost salty edge that makes it perfect for pairing with seafood. Or perfect for sipping on a hot day.

Wild Thing Rosé

Wild Thing

I’m not saying that a bottle of Wild Thing Rosé will make your heart sing and make everything groovy but I’m also not saying that it won’t. This organic Rosé is Tempranillo through and through with the wine itself having been developed exclusively for The Born Free Foundation – a wildlife charity that works to save animals lives, stop suffering, rescue individuals and protect species – by Vintage Roots. Good wine with a good cause behind it.

Cuvée des Galets Rouge

Cuvvee

Les Vignerons d'Estezargues are the co-operative behind this affordable Rhône Vallery red and I think it’s safe to say the loveable rogues have done a stellar job in its creation. A steal for under a tenner, this minimal intervention wine is a real easy drinker that goes great with pizza and pasta.

Free Run Juice, Samurai Shiraz

Ciello Bianco

Normanno ciello bianco terre siciliane igp sicily italy 10918426 copy copy

This organic, natural Catarratto from Siciliy can be in your arms for less than £10. Which, let’s be honest, is far cheaper and much more accessible than an actual holiday to Sicily right now. Owned by the Vesco family, Cantine Rallo has a reputation for racy natural wines that won’t break the bank. This is just that.

WALT Riesling 2018

WALT riesling

I’ve got a real thing for German Riesling and this tidy bottle, which hails from the Pfalz region of the country, is an affordable, off-dry entry point into that scene. Expect an aromatic and apricot-y wine that’s begging to be drunk with something spicy.

Gran Cerdo Tinto

Gran cerdo red2

This Tempranillo, which is yet another bottle from cult winemaker Gonzalo Grijalba, is excellent value considering its quality. Medium-bodied with a pleasant bramble fruit vibe, and made using sustainable farming practices and fermented in stainless steel, the wine is a deep red with a refreshingly light flavour that makes it suitable for just about every occasion.

Ciello Rosso

Ciello Rosso

Nero d’Avola is the only grape to be found in the redder, slightly more complex sibling of Cantine Rallo’s Blanco. And taking into account the lack of intervention in this wine, it’s a pretty straight interpretation of what that grape is like. Just a warning that your bottle of Ciello Rosso might appear slightly cloudy in appearance but that’s only because it’s not fined or filtered. It’s not gone off and should taste like a nighttime snog with a plum.

Bohem Toscar Airen/Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Bohem

Airien and Sauvignon Blanc are combined to delicious effect in this organic Spanish white wine from Bodegas Latúe. Light and dry without too much of an overwhelmingly boozy taste, this goes down very, very easily whatever you’re drinking it with. A crowdpleaser that you’re not going to want to share.

Domaine de pajot

The south-west of France is where Domaine de Pajot calls home and this wine, a blend of four grapes that bounce off each other happily like puppies on a trampoline, should really be calling your wine rack home. Pierre-Henri Gadais, Melon Blanc Vendange Nocturne

Melon Blanc Vendange Nocturne Vin de France 1080x

A bright and easy-going organic wine from Pierre-Henri Gadais that makes the most of the Melon Blanc grape’s potential. Sitting at just 11%, this is a refreshing bottle you can very easily get through in an evening without getting too sloshed. Which is always a plus in my books.
