I am not a wealthy man. I spend far too much of my money eating out and, as a result, I don’t have a huge amount of expendable income to spend on things like kitchen tools. Or rent. That’s why I’ve previously rounded up some of the best kitchen tools under £5 and why I’m currently going to point you in the direction of 10 of the best kitchen tools under £10.

I’m not saying that these are the tools you necessarily need in your kitchen but they will make your life a whole lot easier and your cooking experiences a lot more enjoyable. Having a mezzaluna chopper in your arsenal is a big flex and guaranteed to impress anyone that comes round to your next dinner party.

Quite a few of our recipes here at MOB Kitchen call for a pestle and mortar. It’s an essential bit of kit for making a punchy aioli, homemade pesto or grinding spices for a salsa. It’s like Memento if he couldn’t remember the recipe for a devil’s food cake. Ounces, tablespoons, teaspoons, millilitres – this measuring glass has got it all, MOB.

Sexy? No. Essential for making sure you don’t serve up a bone-dry roast beef? Absolutely. This handy meat thermometer is capable of measuring the internal temperature of your meat as well as the external temperature of your oven at the same time. The latter might not sound all that useful until you realise your oven has been off by about 20 degrees all these years. This might cost slightly over a tenner but that knowledge, my friend, is priceless.

Cooking with hot oil is dangerous! Fishing out deep-fried falafel with a dessert spoon is dangerous! Prevent scalding yourself when deep-frying by investing a small amount of money into getting yourself a nifty Vogue spider. Not only does it look very professional but it means you have an excuse to make jokes about having a spider in the kitchen. An underrated perk of any kitchen tool.

For just a touch over £5, you can get your mitts on a square and round stamp that’ll have you smashing out portions of pasta parcels in no time. Pasta making skills are sadly not included.
